When do I need a hearing test?
According to Statistics roughly 47% of adults above the age of 60 to 79 experience hearing losses. Between the ages of 40 -59 years 16% of adults have hearing losses and a much lower percentage of only 7% of diagnosed hearing losses exist between 19–39-year-olds. If you notice anything bothering, you it is always wise to have a hearing test done. Common problems that indicate that you should visit an Audiologist are the following:
- Family members that comment that you do not hear
- Struggling to follow conversations
- Not coping/ not hearing when a person speaks behind a mask
- Background sound that appears to interfere when people speak
- Turning up the volume of the TV, Radio, or cell phone
- Struggling to hear on the phone
- Struggling to hear the doorbell ring
- Struggling to hear where sound comes from -difficulty in localising sound
- Often having the feeling that people do not talk well or do not pronounce their words correctly
- Not hearing soft environmental sounds like small birds, rain or leaves rustling in the wind
Please ensure that you have a check up on your ears and your hearing health. We regularly check vision an eye sight but neglect to evaluate our hearing abilities by means of a 2-3 yearly hearing test.
